I tried to swim fast and see if I could touch him but he was a better swimmer than me. I was so inspired that when I came home I created this Green Sea Turtle tile in memory of him.

Sea Otter and Pup - Hand Painted Art Tile
$47.95Now I have first- hand experience with these guys! Along the California coast near Monterey I was able to put in my kayak and paddle amongst the kelp beds and saw several pods of sea otters floating atop the water. Some of them even had little pups on top of their stomachs as they floated on their backs in the water. They like to entangle themselves in the kelp beds to help anchor them. I saw and heard one of them using a rock to hit a mussel in order to open and eat it. They are considered an endangered species and have a very limited habitat.

Maple Leaf - Hand Painted Art Tile
$47.95I think that leaves are intricately beautiful with all their delicate webbing and lovely colors. We have a small Maple Tree in front of our shop and I looked at it closely and saw the bean-like seed pods hanging from it which I had really never noticed before. After many color schemes I was able to portray the multi layers of colors that exist simultaneously on one leaf when it begins to “turn” multi-color in the Fall. The Japanese characters on the tile say “Japanese Maple” as these trees are very much revered in Japan.

$47.95I have kayaked this very salty lake whose only fish is brine shrimp ! The islands in the lake are where seagulls nest and breed. Osprey also make nests on top of the tufas but must fly to other fresh water lakes far away to provide fish for their chicks.

Polar Bear - Hand Painted Art Tile
$47.95Actually I must give credit to my son, Jeremy for this polar bear’s design. He drew this bear in class during high school as a proto-type for one he would be eventually carving out of soap stone. It was such a playful yet elegant design that I “borrowed” it from him. After all this is a family business and we all chip in! Due to climatic changes in the ice patterns up North the polar bear is currently listed as a threatened species.
