These ceramic tiles are all our own original art designs which our family has been creating for over 30 years. Each art tile is individually hand painted then "fired" in our kiln to 1800 degrees until the vivid, jewel-like colors emerge for you to enjoy as a painting or as a useful hot plate.  We pride ourselves on our attention to detail with added color nuances that make each tile special.

  • Sea Otter and Pup - Hand Painted Art Tile

Sea Otter and Pup - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

Now I have first- hand experience with these guys! Along the California coast near Monterey I was able to put in my kayak and paddle amongst the kelp beds and saw several pods of sea otters floating atop the water. Some of them even had little pups on top of their stomachs as they floated on their backs in the water. They like to entangle themselves in the kelp beds to help anchor them. I saw and heard one of them using a rock to hit a mussel in order to open and eat it. They are considered an endangered species and have a very limited habitat.

  • Garlic - Hand Painted Art Tile

Garlic - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

The truth be that we were trying to get accepted into the famous Garlic Festival in California and so I did a garlic design to increase our chances of getting into the show with our tiles. I couldn’t find a suitable picture of a garlic clove so I used one fresh one right out of my kitchen and it is amazing all the nuances of color that I found on that one little clove. It is my “plein air” garlic clove!

  • Humpback Whale & Baby - Hand Painted Art Tile

Humpback Whale & Baby - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

Found in almost every ocean the Humpback whale migrates 16,000 miles each year from their Polar feeding grounds down to tropical waters where they breed and give birth. They feed only in Summer and fast all Winter long living off their fat reserves. The male produces a complex song lasting 10 – 20 minutes and is repeated for hours at a time. I have seen Humpbacks off the coast of Hawaii, Mexico and California. I am always so impressed by their sheer size and magnificence. Over-hunted their population fell by 90% until a 1966 moratorium was introduced. They are slowly coming back. My humpback has her calf swimming alongside her.

  • Chili Pepper - Hand Painted Art Tile

Chili Pepper - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

Living in Arizona for over a decade we used to travel to Santa Fe New, Mexico during Fall – the harvest season for their magnificent red chili peppers. They have five foot long “ristras” of these large red chili pods hanging down under their adobe- arched doorways. So we took some home and they became the basis for this vibrant red “Chili” tile design.

  • Penguin & Baby - Hand Painted Art Tile

Penguin & Baby - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

The Emperor Penguins are the tallest and heaviest of all penguins (4 foot tall and 50 -99 lbs). They are the only penguin who breeds during the Antarctic Winter. They trek up to 75 miles over ice to mate and feed their offspring. They withstand temperatures of -40o F and winds of 89mph. The male incubates the sole egg for two months straight without eating anything @ all while the female returns to the sea to feed. Both the male and female lose 60% of their body weight while raising their offspring. Their fuzzy chick is covered with silvery grey down feathers to keep him cozy!

They do not migrate and are able to withstand -50 degree F living inside holes in trees and subsisting off of frozen insects. There is an area near me up in the Sierra Nevada mountains called Chickadee Ridge where during the Winter snowy months the Chickadees fly down from the trees to eat out of your hands birds seed or even your tuna fish sandwich

  • Japanese Sandhill Cranes - Hand Painted Art Tile

Japanese Sandhill Cranes - Hand Painted Art Tile

    $45.95

I was so enthralled watching a video of this elegant bird’s mating dance in the snow that I was inspired to create this crane design. Because the Sandhill cranes mate for life the Japanese consider them a symbol of eternal love and their wedding kimonos incorporate crane designs into their satin brocade silks. The Japanese character on the tile is the symbol for “love” so I like to give these as wedding or anniversary gifts. I found out Sandhill Cranes also live in the USA and I was able to visit a crane reserve in my area and see them up close and personal. These birds are typically 5 foot tall with a red forehead and black legs. When they migrate in the Fall you can hear their “trilling” sounds but can barely see them as they are flying @ 10,000 feet catching the “thermals” so they don’t have to flap their 5-8 foot wingspans very often. They are truly a magnificent bird.
