Panda Bears - Hand Painted Art Tile

These plumpish, clumsy bears live almost entirely off of bamboo. They are an Endangered Species and there are only about 2500 of them left. In fact they are the representatives of all Endangered Species and are the symbol for the World Wildlife Fund.

I would just go right up to them and take a good look at their most magnificent intricately webbed wings. $45.95The Grey whale is a Baleen whale that feeds on small crustaceans on the bottom of the sea. He has 2 blowholes which create a unique V-shaped “blow”. Each October the Grey whales make a most amazing annual migration of 7000 miles one way from his feeding grounds in the Bering Straight to the tropical seas of Mexico where the females give birth. I have seen Grey whales in the famous Scammons Lagoon in Baja where they came right up to our small Mexican“ponga” boat and we could actually touch them. It is in this warm water lagoon where the mother’s give birth. I have portrayed my grey whale with a newborn calf close beside her.

Maple Leaf - Hand Painted Art Tile
$45.95I think that leaves are intricately beautiful with all their delicate webbing and lovely colors. We have a small Maple Tree in front of our shop and I looked at it closely and saw the bean-like seed pods hanging from it which I had really never noticed before. After many color schemes I was able to portray the multi layers of colors that exist simultaneously on one leaf when it begins to “turn” multi-color in the Fall. The Japanese characters on the tile say “Japanese Maple” as these trees are very much revered in Japan.

Wine and Cheese - Hand Painted Art Tile
$45.95Dating back to the 18th century, Spanish Missionaries planted the first vineyards along with each Mission established to produce wine for Church ceremonies and for daily life. The original cuttings came from Mexico and were the descendants of the “common black grape” which was brought to the New World by Herman Cortez in 1520. California accounts for 90% of American wine production. I live down the street from a small “boutique” vineyard on only 10 acres. I have helped pick grapes during their Fall harvest and afterwards they have a wonderful outdoor dinner to celebrate. I added a loaf of bread and some cheese to my outdoorsy wine design. Cheers!

Garlic - Hand Painted Art Tile
$45.95The truth be that we were trying to get accepted into the famous Garlic Festival in California and so I did a garlic design to increase our chances of getting into the show with our tiles. I couldn’t find a suitable picture of a garlic clove so I used one fresh one right out of my kitchen and it is amazing all the nuances of color that I found on that one little clove. It is my “plein air” garlic clove!

Sea Otter and Pup - Hand Painted Art Tile
$45.95Now I have first- hand experience with these guys! Along the California coast near Monterey I was able to put in my kayak and paddle amongst the kelp beds and saw several pods of sea otters floating atop the water. Some of them even had little pups on top of their stomachs as they floated on their backs in the water. They like to entangle themselves in the kelp beds to help anchor them. I saw and heard one of them using a rock to hit a mussel in order to open and eat it. They are considered an endangered species and have a very limited habitat.
